EPM 11.2.9 Now Available

It appears that EPM 11.2.9 is now available from the Oracle eDelivery site.  The software release was April 26, 2022.

As usual, this release comes with some major changes to how Oracle is approaching the maintenance of the EPM suite.  For starters, this version can now only be applied over the top of EPM 11.2.8.  It is not a full stand-alone release, and it does not contain a full set of EPM software.  So clients must install an 11.2.8 base (or maintenance release up to that version) and then apply this as a patch set.

Additionally, the product suite is now using a script to apply the full set of updates, without the need to reconfigure the system or redeploy components.  It does seem to allow you to patch all components at once, or if desired select individual components for upgrade.  The new version uses a PowerShell command for Windows and a Shell script for LINUX to apply the updates.  The full readme can be read here.

Lastly, I noticed in looking into this that the traditional install guide is now missing from the Oracle Documentation Library.  The PDF is still available from eDelivery as part of the download bundle, but the HTML guide was generally more up to date.  It seems to have been replaced with the Enterprise Performance Management System Standard Deployment Guide, found here.

This is all well-and-good, but the issue here is that it seems to be an incomplete version of the earlier 11.2.8 guide.  For example, there is no reference to configuring SQL Server, it lacks the maintenance release application details, etc.  The full guide is still out there, but not from the splash screen for installing the EPM tools.  The link to the 11.2.8 guide can be found here.  But I’m not sure why it doesn’t display with the rest of the EPM Installation documentation in the library.  Hopefully Oracle fixes this and makes it easy to find again, since it’s required as a base for 11.2.8.

I’ve not yet had the pleasure of applying this release, but I will be doing so shortly in our lab environment, so stay tuned for another blog if anything interesting comes of that.
