Applying the 11.2.9 Maintenance Release
As promised, I am following up with some observations after applying the new 11.2.9 maintenance release. The release is pretty straight-forward, and I ran into no issues following the documented steps provided by Oracle here.
It is a whole new process and look/feel from previous maintenance releases and from previous OPatch applications. Essentially you run a Power Shell script in Windows and wait for it to complete. Once done, you restart services and validate. The script takes a while to run, but does show the various steps it’s progressing through, as seen below:
The steps do ask you to backup both the \EPMSystem11R1 and \user_projects folder, as well as the various cacerts locations on the server. I simply backed-up \jdk under Oracle/Middleware, since the backup of EPMSystem11R1 already contains the other cacerts location documented. One observation here is that manually backing up these locations could cause some size-constraints on most disk drives. So, it may be best to send them to a compressed format.
Overall, while different, the patch process here was pretty clean and easy. You just have to get to 11.2.8 first to take advantage of it.
As always, if you should need assistance updating your EPM environments, please let us know and we’d be happy to assist.
