Oracle Essbase and Smart View Integration: Optimizing Connections in Version 11.2.15 and Beyond

The change from Essbase 11.1.2.4 to 21c for on-premise EPM has some impact for Smart View Shared Connections. Behavior of the logins required to access Essbase cubes in Smart View has evolved due to the web-based nature of Essbase 21c. The initial login required for Smart View when accessing Shared Connections has not visibly changed:

Selecting “Oracle Essbase” in the right pane will bring up a new login screen for Essbase, one that is web-driven:

However, if you do not have the Smart View Provider added to your local PC’s “Trusted Sites”, your Essbase login may look like this:

I don’t even get a login screen from Essbase here!

To work around this, you can add the Smart View Provider’s base URL to your users’ PCs “Trusted Sites”

Go to “Search” on the PC’s taskbar, type in “Internet Options”

Click the “Security” tab, click on the green checkmark for “Trusted sites” then click the “Sites” button just below it:

In the “Add this website to the zone:” fill in the blank with a portion of your Smart View Provider Shared Connection URL: https://someserver.here.com

DO NOT put a port number or trailing /workspace/SmartViewProviders !

Click “Add” and “Close”

Then click “OK”.

Try your login again and you should see the new Essbase login screen:
