OooHS (Fun )when Upgrading EPM 11.2.4 to 11.2.8+
Recently I was upgrading an EPM 11.2.4 environment and I ran into a new issue which was a ‘show stopper’ on completing the upgrade to EPM 11.2.8 (which is a requirement to move beyond 11.2.8). I found no documentation on Oracle Support for this one, so, I thought it would be good to cover the issue.
In this instance, upon downloading and applying the EPM 11.2.8 update, I encountered an issue where the OHS step fails to apply properly. I hit this two different times before I resolved it, and saw different error messages (or no error message in the second go-round) before I resolved it. The initial error message I received was:
Now on the face of it, this is concerning, but it flashed by and the installer completed the HTTP Server step with a green checkmark, so I thought maybe like some other program errors, it was much ado about nothing. As it turned out, that wasn’t the case. When I got around to running the configuration utility and trying to reconfigure the web server, I got a message that there was no valid OHS installation in D:\Oracle\Middleware\ohs. A cursory review of the folder contents showed that there were missing files/folders in the ohs directory…so much for that run.
The second run produced similar results, ever after I’d re-downloaded the software from eDelivery, thinking perhaps something was wrong with the media. I restored my Oracle folder backup and tried for a third run. This time, I highlighted OHS as part of the Upgrade, looking to see if the Install Utility had any messages that would explain why OHS was failing and saw the below error:
This led to some internal teams discussion where a coworker pointed me to a blog comment where it was noted that for some reason, the HTTP Server Install step is looking for media under the folder structure \null\win64. I copied the OHS portion of the install media to that folder and the error in the Install Utility went away, and my OHS install/upgrade was successful.
I should note that I’ve installed 11.2.8 many times and I’ve upgraded it many times, and this is the first time I’ve seen this. I’m also pretty sure I’ve updated from 11.2.4 before and not encountered this. But, as always, I’m happy to share what I find and we here at iArch Solutions are always around to assist with any EPM or Cloud related issues.
