If you receive a security prompt due to a Legacy System Extension issue, here’s what you need to do in order to fix the issue and get WatchGuard to install correctly:

If you’re the administrator of the Mac, you can change the level of security used on your startup disk.

1.    On the Mac with Apple icon, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.

2.    Press and hold the power button until “Loading startup options” appears.

3.    Click Options, then click Continue.

4.    Select a startup disk, then click Next.

5.    Select an administrator account, then click Next.

6.    Enter the password for the administrator account, then click Continue.

7.    In the Recovery App, choose Utilities > Startup Security Utility.

8.    Select the system you want to use to set the security policy.

9.    If the disk is encrypted with FileVault, click Unlock, enter the password, then click Unlock.

10. Click Security Policy.

11. Select one of the following security options:

·       Full Security: Ensures that only your current OS, or signed operating system software currently trusted by Apple, can run. This mode requires a network connection at software installation time.

·       Reduced Security: Allows any version of signed operating system software ever trusted by Apple to run.

12. If you selected Reduced Security, select any of the following options, if needed:

a.    Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers: Allows installation of software that uses legacy kernel extensions.

 b.    Allow remote management of kernel extensions and automatic software updates: Authorizes remote management of legacy kernel extensions and software updates using a mobile device management (MDM) solution.

13. Click OK.

 14. If you changed the security, click the User pop-up menu, choose an administrator account, enter the password for the account, then click OK.

15. Choose Apple menu > Restart. You must restart your Mac for the changes to take effect.

Once signed back into your computer profile, navigate back to your download folder and re-attempt to install the WatchGuard software or you can re-download the software from the provided link.

When you run the app installer on your macOS device, you might still get a System Extensions Blocked message that prompts you to enable new extensions. In order to enable system extensions, you must perform the following steps:

  1.    You can either open the WatchGuard Endpoint Security software and click Open Security Preferences Panel or you can navigate to the System Settings > Privacy & Security > scroll down to the Security section and allow the WatchGuard application to connect.

Note: You will need to enter the administrator’s username and password.

  2. Next, you will need to enable full disk access. You can grant full disk access either by opening the WatchGuard Security software and clicking on Open Hard Disk Access Preferences or you can navigate to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access and locate the WatchGuard Mobile VPN with SSL symbol, followed by enabling the application to have full control.

Note: You will need to enter the administrator’s username and password.

If you get any Network Extension issues, you may need to go and enable the NextLoader Network Extension by clicking on the Open Security Preferences Panel, within the WatchGuard Endpoint Security application, and unblock the NextLoader network extension (you will need to enter in the administrator username and password again).

You should now be good to go! Go ahead and open the WatchGuard application and test out your VPN connection.
