Are you ready for Essbase 21c?
Is your organization ready for Essbase 21c? Recently, we have been getting some feedback that EPM customers should be considering a move to Essbase 21c. Oracle's latest flagship Essbase product is the 21c version. They are working to make it the default Essbase code integrated with EPM or as stand alone Essbase Implementations.
Since EPM 11.2.5 Oracle has certified Essbase 21c for use with the EPM platform. Oracle has begun strongly encouraging clients implementing or upgrading to 11.2.x to use Essbase 21c as the Essbase platform during implementation. Essbase 21c is not dropped with EPM, but requires a separate install and post integration to make it work with the platform, and integrate with EPM's Shared Services security. This combination is gaining traction and we are seeing more and more clients adopt Essbase 21c.
Now, there is a learning curve. Essbase 21c uses a Weblogic, java-based front end and the traditional management interfaces are very different to the legacy version. The functionality is all there, it just requires some exploration to find how to do things in the new version.
Migration to Essbase21c from legacy Essbase requires some changes, but they are manageable, Just allow additional time in the project timeline. Essbase 21c requires all applications to be Unicode for example, and legacy MAXL connection require new syntax and updates. Oracle provides a utility for the migration which works much like the EPM lCM utility, but it is a dedicated Essbase utility.
If you have not considered moving to Essbase 21c, now is the time to start planning. Future EPM releases are likely to include Essbase 21c, so looking at what Essbase 21c can do for your organization is something worth looking at.
